Formed in 2009 with an objective of increasing literacy outcomes, members believe in “strengthening literacy through community”.

Current programming includes:

• Active Stories
• FREE books on over 40 Bright Red Bookshelves throughout the Nicola Valley
• Come Read With Me seminars for parents to support their children’s reading
• One to One tutoring in elementary schools
• Explore Art Literacy
• Family Literacy Events
• Family Literacy Games Sessions
• “Movin” to the Beat Physical Literacy for teens
• Sock it to Literacy Fundraiser
• Summer Reading
• Technical Literacy for Seniors
• Welcome Signage for businesses in Nlaka’pamux and Sylix

The purposes of the society are:

• To identify the gaps in community literacy;
• To link community literacy services together;
• To work with community literacy partners to assist in filling the gaps of community literacy.
